Spring Flower Season in North Georgia: What’s Happening at the Farm
There’s a quiet kind of magic that happens on the farm this time of year.
The air is still cool, the mornings are slow, and beneath the surface, everything is beginning to wake up. After months of rest, the fields at Valley Girl Flower Farm are starting to come back to life — and with it comes the promise of another beautiful bloom season here in the North Georgia mountains.
If you’ve been wondering what’s happening behind the scenes right now, here’s a little peek at what’s growing, sprouting, and stretching toward spring.
🌸 Early Signs of Spring Are Here
One of the first signs that the season is shifting is the arrival of our peonies. Their deep red shoots are just beginning to emerge from the soil — small but strong — reminding us that warmer days are on the way. Peonies are always worth the wait, and seeing them return is one of our favorite moments each year.
Nearby, our sweet peas are sprouting as well. These delicate climbers may look unassuming now, but in just a few weeks, they’ll be covered in soft, fragrant blooms that fill the air with one of the most nostalgic scents of spring.
Nigella seedlings are also up and growing, bringing with them the promise of those airy, whimsical blooms that add so much texture and movement to our bouquets. They’re a quiet favorite on the farm — delicate, a little wild, and completely unique.
🌷 What We’re Watching Closely
Our tulips and anemones are steadily stretching upward, soaking in the early spring sunshine. Each day brings a little more growth, and we’re keeping a close eye on them as they prepare for their seasonal show.
These are some of the blooms that truly signal the arrival of spring on the farm — vibrant, layered, and full of life. Timing is everything with these flowers, and we’re eagerly anticipating that first wave of color across the fields.
🌼 Looking Ahead to the Season
While much of the farm is beginning to wake up, some of our summer favorites are still resting. Our dahlias spent the winter tucked safely under cover right here in the field, and if the season cooperates, we’re hopeful this will lead to earlier blooms than usual.
Dahlias are always a highlight of late summer, but their journey starts now — quietly, beneath the soil, preparing for their moment later in the season.
